I agree...its all the seam allowances, but I gotta tell you girls not yet at this point....get ready because she is one heavy heavy girl! I put a "protective" layer of cardboard on our kitchen table, clamp the back down and then lay the top on...spray baste & pin...then release and slide it to another section, reclamp the back on the side that is loose..the weight of the thing pulls the other side taunt, spray baste and pin the next section and so on. I neglected to flip it over in between sections though so the back isn't as tight as I would like. I'm going to sew a vertical and a horizontal to section it and then re-smooth the back and repin it before I go further.
Debbie, I'm not sure how you are planning to quilt yours. I guess you could just use like a sheet between them or something very lightweight but you will still be dealing with those thick layers of seam allowances. They are tough to deal with on 1 top thickness, I'm not sure how you would handle that on 2 tops together. Yours might not be quite as thick though because you didn't paper piece. That might make a difference. Reversible would be lovely if you can figure out how to deal with that issue. The only other thing I can think of is that you would have to flip it to be able to admire them both whereas if you had 2 quilts, well, you could..well I dunno..how many kids do you have that would want the quilt????

Debbie...are you crazy? Each of these is such a masterpiece, and totally a bazillion hours...no way would I put them together. Two quilts, girl! Whoever gets that "second quilt" will think they have died and gone to heaven. I am already wishing I hadn't promised mine to my oldest son...thats how much I love it. Two absolutely fabulous quilts...wow! Go,girl. (Gee,did I have an opinion? LOL)

thank you ladies for the advice.
patti i did paper piece as many of these beauties as i could. as a matter of fact it was this quilt that got me hooked on pp.
i think that you are all right 2 beautiful babies is better than one.
i have 2 daughters and 1 son. 2 grandsons and 2 grandaughters. i will figure out who will get these lovelies but i have time. i can alternate the 2 quilts on my bed, on one week have the scrappy happy then the next have the reds singing the blues.
and yes i think i am a bit crazy...........2 DJ's at the same time.
but i have loved the friendships i have aquired and the journey as i am making these.

Hi, I didn't get any response to this post on the QB and I was hoping maybe, possibly, you could let me know what you think. Thanks, Maribeth
I just learned Brenda Papadakis is going to have a new "Dear Jane 2" line of fabric http://www.baumtextile.com/cgi-bin/f...8&View=All&v=1 to follow the original line from 2008. http://www.dearjane.com/dear_jane_fabric.htm I then remembered that I purchased a fat quarter pack back then and, after a little rummaging around, took it out to check it over. I don't remember it being this bright and colorful. I think it looks more like 30's reproductions than Civil War reproductions, but the new line looks more CW. What do you think? If you purchased the original DJ fabric, what did you use it for and did you find it to be CW? Just wondering, can't believe I forgot I had purchased it. Guess that means I have too much fabric?

Meribeth, Its hard to tell on my monitor, but they do look a bit bright for the period. Not having ever seen the original quilt "in person", it seems in my mind to be a bit drab in color. To me the book and the software show it as such. It would be hard to say how bright it originally was though.
Of course, looking at the BabyJane that I've made..I believe that you can do it an any colors you happen to like! Are you planning to do a Baby or have you already? Are you planning more of a "replica"?

I would like to make 2 DJs, one just like the original and one in Kaufman's blue/green Imperial Fusions collection. I just have to get up the courage, because some of those blocks look intense. I should probably start out of order and work on the easy ones first.
